Artists' Exchange mission is to create an atmosphere in which creativity, learning and discovery converge and individuality is celebrated. Our collaboration provides unique and gratifying farm-based programs for adults with physical, intellectual and developmental disabilities in the community. The sheep at Mowry Commons are here because of the support and efforts of the Artists' Exchange. We are so happy to give a home to Clover, Hazelnut and Peach!
Sheep Husbandry
The sheep at Mowry Commons are part of a program where adults with disabilities discover the joy of caring for farm animals. The sheep receive daily care and lot of love. Their wool is sheared twice a year is used as a sustainable fiber in various creative practices taught at Artists' Exchange and through the Art Making in the Garden series at Mowry Commons. This series is funded by RISCA, the Rhode Island State Council for the Arts.
Arts Access
Artists’ Exchange offers immersion opportunities for the exploration of the arts through classes, summer camps, school programs, birthday parties and events in art, theater, music and ceramics. The in-house Black Theatre, an integrated theater company composed of actors with and without disabilities, produces four plays each year which aim to engage, inspire, entertain and challenge audiences. Artists’ Exchange hosts a variety of community events such as the Fall Out of Summer Arts Festival and Gingerbread House Decorating Contest, all geared to bring people together in a shared celebration of creativity and self-expression.
